When do I need to be moved out of student residences?
In light of the rapidly changing COVID-19 pandemic, all students who reside on the island of Newfoundland are required to move out of residence by Friday, March 20. All personal belongings must be removed from your space. Similarly, students living in Labrador and elsewhere in Canada are required to make every effort to adjust travel plans to return home. I can’t leave until after March 20. What do I do?
St. John's Campus students: If you will be departing but are unable to do so prior to March 20 please contact email@example.com. Updated 8:55 p.m. March 16.
Grenfell Campus students: Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are unable to depart prior to March 20. If anyone who is doing research or a clinical student is permitted to stay. If anyone has any exceptional circumstances, they are to email email@example.com and we will review each case individually. Updated 12:20 p.m. March 17.
I am unable to return home at this time. Am I allowed to stay in residences?
Anyone who is unable to return home, for reasons such as international travel restrictions or other exceptional circumstances, will be provided with accommodation and support services. We understand that there are exceptional circumstances or academic requirments that may impact travel arrangements for some students. We will evaluate those on a case by case basis as long as there is supporting documentation accompanying the request. Please sent all requests to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that we reserve the right to move students to other residences and rooms and may do so in order to assist with social distancing. Updated 8:55 p.m. March 16.
What supports and services will remain in place?
St. John's Campus students: Residences will remain open. Food services will continue for students living in residence. Aramark has enhanced food service and cleaning protocols in place. There will still be staff on site for support and guidance.
Grenfell Campus students: The Grove will remain open, also with increased cleaning protocols in place. The lounges in residence will also remain open for cooking purposes.
Is there anywhere I can store my things on campus?
St. John's Campus students: In order to facilitate quick departures, on the St. John's campus there is temporary storage space arranged for mini fridges and larger appliances only in the building in which you reside. Please ensure these items are unplugged, thawed out and labelled with your name. Contact your Resident Assistant to gain access to these secure space. Updated 8:55 p.m. March 16.
Grenfell Campus students: Yes. If you need storage please email the Student Housing office at email@example.com.
Will I be refunded for my room and meal plan?
St. John's Campus students: Students who move out from residence by March 20 will receive a prorated refund for their room and meal plan. This will be posted to your student account.
Grenfell Campus students: You will receive a prorated refund for your room. Grenfell Campus students may have optional meal card plans purchased directly through an independent food services operator, The Grove. Students who purchased optional meal cards will have unused meal plan credits carried forward to the next academic semester/year as per existing regular plan design. If I am staying in residence past March 20 will I still have to pay?
If you do not move out regular fees still apply and your student account will not be prorated. Services continue.
What, if any, restrictions are in place for residence buildings?
No group gatherings.

I am experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, what do I do?
Contact 811 if you develop a fever, cough or have difficulty breathing and wait for direction from the Health Line staff. If you are directed to self-isolate follow the steps provided by the Government of Canada and text the duty phone for your building.
My parents/family are coming to help me move out, can they stay with me for a couple of days?
No, they are not permitted. No guests are permitted at this time.
What is the process for check-out?
St. John's Campus students: When leaving, please go to the Student Residences Office, located in room HA-313, Hatcher House. Notify staff that you are checking out and return your keys (if necessary). If the office is closed when you arrive, please complete the envelope in the key drop box and return your keys (if necessary). If you have already left, please inform Student Residences of this as your account can not be prorated if we are not informed.
Grenfell Campus students: When leaving, please go to the Student Housing office, Res 201, or Campus Enforcement and Patrol. Notify staff that you are checking out and return your keys. You will need to sign in your keys at the Housing office or with Campus Enforcement. If you have already left, please inform the Student Housing office as your account can not be prorated if we are not informed.
I reside at the Signal Hill Campus. Is there anything different I should be aware of?
The majority of information and processes shared with residence students is valid for students living at the Signal Hill Campus. However, students residing there are encouraged to watch for email updates to Signal Hill community coming from the Signal Hill Campus's office of Strategic Operations. Students with questions specific to Signal Hill Campus may reach out to Adam Saunders at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What steps are being taken in student residences to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
St. John's Campus students: Increased cleaning protocols are in place for custodial services, focused on disinfection.
Dining Hall services have been adjusted to create sterile and safe serving environments and mitigate associated risks.

Will my mail/packages be forwarded to my home address?
Letter mail will be forwarded. Packages will be held until you can arrange for pickup.
Effective Tuesday, March 24 mail services for Student Residences will be moved to Memorial University Mail Services located in the Printing Services/Ingstad Building at 310 Elizabeth Ave. Please refer to your student email for further instructions. Updated, March 23 at 3:05 p.m.
