Want to Contribute?
The Foreword: Memorial’s Teaching and Learning Newsletter is published five times a year by CITL. We welcome contributions from Memorial faculty, instructors, staff and academic leaders who want to share ideas, experiences, and insights that inform and inspire teaching practice.
The newsletter is written for Memorial faculty and instructors, with contributions from academic professionals both within and outside of the university. We invite contributions to The Foreword from academic leaders who want to share their teaching innovations and successes, engage in evidence-based conversations about post-secondary education and connect with colleagues and contribute to a growing community of reflective educators. Every issue is shared with a broader community of educators, both within and beyond Memorial, through our website and LinkedIn.
What We Publish
We’re interested in pieces that:
- Spark reflection and dialogue about teaching and learning.
- Connect ideas to Memorial’s teaching context, while linking to broader post-secondary conversations.
- Showcase innovation and evidence-based practice in the classroom and beyond.
Possible article types include:
- Thought leadership or opinion pieces on timely topics in higher education.
- Reflections on personal teaching experiences or new approaches.
- Spotlights on research, pedagogical tools or instructional design strategies.
- Interviews or Q&As with educators or researchers.
- Reviews of recent publications or reports relevant to teaching and learning.
Articles are typically up to 750 words, written in a professional but approachable tone. We use Canadian spelling and punctuation (CP style) and APA for citations.
Submission Guidelines
Each article should:
- Start with context: What’s the issue, trend or question? Why does it matter now?
- Provide evidence or examples: Draw from research, experience or practice.
- Reflect and connect: Relate ideas to Memorial’s teaching environment.
- Offer a takeaway: Suggest strategies, reflective questions or next steps.
We encourage the use of plain language, inclusive and bias-free writing, and short paragraphs for online readability. Where appropriate, include links or multimedia (with permission) such as photos or videos.
Submission and Review Process
We accept ideas and drafts on a rolling basis. To contribute, please submit your idea using our pitch form. The editorial team will review your proposal to ensure alignment with The Foreword’s purpose and provide feedback.
If invited to proceed, you’ll be asked to submit a draft approximately three weeks before publication. Our editors will work with you on clarity, tone and accessibility before final approval. Articles are published on the CITL website and shared through LinkedIn.
If you'd like to discuss a potential idea before submitting or have questions about the process, please contact the editorial team.
