Master of Health Ethics Students Win Clinical Ethics Fellowships
Winifred Badaiki, graduate of the Master of Health Ethics program, was recently awarded a Hamilton Health Sciences Clinical and Organizational Ethics Fellowship. She begins her fellowship in the Fall 2021.
Zachary Walbaum, a current Master of Health Ethics student, has been accepted for a Clinical Ethics Internship in the Ethics Quality Improvement Lab at William Osler Health System. Zachary begins his internship in September 2021.

While the right to informed consent is often taken for granted in contemporary health care contexts, achieving an adequate standard of consent is an ongoing challenge. The Centre for Bioethics is pleased to present the results of a "Design Jam" funded through the Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner that explored a variety of approaches to "dynamic consent" in the contemporary health care environment. Professor Daryl Pullman, Director of the MUN Centre for Bioethics, was honoured with the Canadian Bioethics Society Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in Banff, Alberta at the end of May. The ceremony was part of the program for the 2019 Canadian Bioethics Society annual conference.

Bringing Home the Beothuk: The Ethics of Repatriation - by Daryl Pullman
The recent news that the skulls of two Beothuk individuals that have been stored in the archives of the National Museum of Scotland since the early 1800s are about to come home to Canada, is long overdue.
However, details of what will happen to the skulls once they are returned to the National Museum of History in Ottawa are still unclear. Almost certainly the skulls will eventually come home to Newfoundland and Labrador.
But whether they will go into storage again, be returned to a local Indigenous community or be subjected to further forensic study, is still unknown. (Read More)
Two Masters Students Contribute to Research Guidelines for Vulnerable Populations
Angela Power and Janine Elliott, masters students in Health Ethics, with their professor's guidance, spent months conducting background research and working closely with the team at Choices for Youth to develop guidelines that would benefit all stakeholders, especially at-risk youth.
