Welding and Sheet Metal
Specializing in the design and construction of research
equipment and teaching aids - from small, intricate component
pieces to large assemblies - the Welding and Sheet Metal Shop can
bend, shape and weld common metals, exotic metals and
plastics.
Services include:
Fabrication of custom research equipment in steel, aluminum,
stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, nickel, cast iron, as well
as platinum, gold, titanium and plastics. Consultation in design
and fabrication methods as well as welding procedures is also
provided. Our staff are capable of welding, using shielded metal
arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, flux-core arc, and
thermoplastic techniques. They also use air carbon-arc,
oxy-acetylene, and plasma cutting processes.
There are two welding and sheet metal shops on campus. One is
located in the Chemistry and Physics Building, the other is in
the
S. J. Carew Building, Both are very well equipped.
