Machine Shop - Mechanical Division
Our highly skilled machinists design, fabricate and repair specialized precision equipment for research, teaching and general plant functions. Our staff maintain and install autoclaves, vacuum pumps and water purification systems. Our CNC milling centers with 5th axis capability and our CNC lathe permit the manufacture of many sophisticated parts. A CMM with laser scanner provides the capability to inspect complex surfaces and also provides reverse engineering capability.
There are two machine shops on campus. One is located in the Chemistry and Physics Building , the other is in the S. J. Carew Building . Both are very well equipped.
Recent capital investments include:
- Haas VF 6 CNC vertical machining centre (X = 64" Y = 32" Z = 30")
- Haas VF 4 CNC vertical machining centre (X = 40" Y = 20" Z = 25")
- Haas SL-30 CNC lathe (30” swing and 36” centers)
- Faro Arm with Laser Scanner and Reverse Engineering
