Scientific Glassblowing - Mechanical Division

Our Glassblowing Shop employs the only active scientific glassblower in the province. The shop creates the exact pieces of glassware needed for ongoing and new research projects.
The shop is equipped with a cut off saw, glassworking lathes and annealing ovens. A vacuum system is available as are other specialty tools and instruments. The shop is fully stocked with various sizes of borosilicate and quartz tubing, valves and joints.
Services include:
  • Fabrication and design of custom research apparatus
  • Modification and repair of borosilicate and quartz laboratory apparatus. This includes: vacuum systems, condensers, cryogenic dewars and distillation units, etc.
  • Plate glasswork, including cutting, grinding and drilling
  • Consultation on the design, construction and purchase of laboratory glassware.
