Electronics and Refrigeration - Electronics Division
The fully trained and widely experienced technologists in Electronics provide a full range of services. There are two Electronics Shops on campus, located in the S.J. Carew Building and the Chemistry-Physics Building.
The Engineering Electronics Shop services the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Department of Earth Sciences, and C-CORE. The primary function of the shop is the design, layout, and fabrication of printed circuit boards (PCBs). The shop has a PCB fabrication facility which fabricates both single and double-sided PCBs and surface mount PCB boards. The shop is equipped with two complete computer stations running EAGLE 4.12 which is a professional software package used for the schematic capture and layout design of printed circuit boards.
The Sciences Electronics Shop offers repair and maintenance services to scientific research instruments such as Mass Spectrometers, high-powered lasers and UV/VIS & IR spectrometers. The shop installs and maintains security surveillance systems, marine navigation and communications systems.
The Refrigeration section of the Electronics Shop provides the design, construction, repair, modification and maintenance of refrigeration units such as condensing units, evaporators, cooling-heating coils, sea water evaporators, ultra-low freezers, sea water aquariums, cooling condensers and immersion baths. The shop inspects, tests and certifies that the refrigeration equipment functions to manufacturer’s specifications.|
