To be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Music in General Musical Studies, a candidate shall comply with the School’s regulations, and successfully complete a minimum of 123 credit hours, including 53 credit hours in the Core Program. The remaining 70 credit hours will be chosen as follows:

Three credit hours chosen from music theory courses beyond the 2000 level.

An additional 56 credit hours to be chosen according to either Option A or Option B below:

An additional 17 credit hours chosen from music courses beyond the 1000-level and meeting the following requirements:

At least 9 credit hours must be chosen from courses beyond the 2000 level in music history and music theory.

Credit will not be given for more than 14 credit hours of conducted ensemble toward the Bachelor of Music degree.

Credit will not be given for more than 8 credit hours of coached ensemble toward the Bachelor of Music degree.

Six credit hours chosen from courses in English and/or designated research/writing courses.

A minor of at least 24 credit hours in a subject other than Music. The candidate must follow the regulations for the minor as set forth in the appropriate section of the Calendar.

Nine credit hours open electives. These may be chosen from courses in music, the minor subject, and/or any other disciplines.

An additional 32 credit hours chosen from music courses beyond the 1000 level and meeting the following requirements:

At least 12 credit hours must be chosen from courses beyond the 2000 level in music history and music theory.

Credit will not be given for more than 14 credit hours of conducted ensemble toward the Bachelor of Music degree.

Credit will not be given for more than 8 credit hours of coached ensemble toward the Bachelor of Music degree.

A maximum of three of the following courses may be substituted for music electives: Education 2510, 2520, 2530, 3920, 3925, 4835, 4845.
Note:
Music Education majors have priority in registering for these courses and spaces may not be available for General Musical Studies majors.

Twenty-four credit hours from disciplines other than music and music education, including at least 6 credit hours from courses in English and/or designated research/writing courses.
