MS Outlook 2003Below is the Step-by-step guide for authenticating yourself with the SMTP mail server using MS Outlook 2003.
Step 1 - Open your Microsoft Outlook 2003 mail client.
Step 2 - Click on Tools along the top menu, then click on E-Mail Accounts.
Step 3 – Once the “Email Accounts” window has appeared, click the button next to “View or change existing e-mail accounts”, and then click Next.
Step 4 – A new “E-mail Accounts” window will appear, highlight “smtp.mun.ca” (this may be different depending on how it was originally setup) and click Change on the menu to the right.
Step 5 – A new window will appear showing your personal email settings, click on More Settings to the bottom right of the screen.
Step 6 – The ‘Internet E-Mail Settings’ window will now appear, click on the Outgoing Server tab along the top menu.
Step 7 – Put a check in the box next to ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’, and select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’. Then click the Advanced tab along the top menu.
Step 8 – Click on the empty box located next to ‘This server requires an encryted connection (SSL)’, then input 587 as the port number. Click OK to close these windows.
