To set up the BlackBerry's email client with MUNmail email (IMAP), just follow the steps below.
Please Note: This document was created using the Blackberry Bold 9650. Clients with different Blackberry models may see slight differences in some screens.
Step 1. On your BlackBerry device, navigate to your home screen
Step 2. Select the icon that lets you set up email (this can be called Setup, Setup Wizard, Email Setup, BlackBerry Set-up, E-mail settings, or Personal Email Set-up)
Step 3. In the setup screen, select the "Email Accounts" icon.
Step 4. Select the "Internet Mail Account" option.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have an existing email account(s) you will see them on screen at this time. If you have previously configured your old MUN IMAP (Webmail) account on your device, you will need to remove this prior to adding your new MUNmail account.. To do this, select your old MUN Webmail account from the list, press the Blackberry menu key:
and choose ‘Delete’ to remove the account. Note that this will remove that inbox from your device.
If you do not have a current MUN Webmail account, but do have other non-MUN email accounts configured on your device, select ‘Set up another email account’ as highlighted below.
Step 5. You should see the following ‘Email Setup’ screen. Click on the ‘Other’ option
Step 6. When setup asks for your email address, enter your:
- MUN LoginID (license plate) followed by "@mun.ca" (e.g. munLoginID@mun.ca)
- A password. NOTE: Enter only one (1) character as a placeholder in the password field. This is a workaround due to Blackberry setup defaulting to POP3 instead of IMAP. You will not have to remember this "placeholder" password.
- Press "Continue"
Step 7. You will see the "Processing, please wait..." message while setup checks your credentials.
Because you didn't enter your true password, you will encounter a "We were unable to configure..." error. Select "I will provide the settings to continue".
Step 8. Add your MUN Login credentials correctly this time (e.g. your MUN LoginID followed by "@mun.ca") and your correct MUN password.
Step 9. Select the option that mentions 'IMAP/POP' (should be selected by default) and scroll down to enter the following information:
- Email Server: imap.gmail.com
- Email Server Type: IMAP (should already be set)
- Port: 993
- Use SSL (Make sure this option is checked)
Scroll down and select the ‘Save’ button (below) to confirm your changes.
Step 10. Click on ‘Return to Setup’ in the ‘Account Setup Configuration’ window.
Press the Blackberry menu key on your device and select "Close".
If prompted with the ‘You are about to exit Setup’ message, select ‘Exit’. Now, to use your newly created MUNmail account, just use the appropriate Email icon on your home screen.
Congratulations! You've completed the Blackberry setup and can now send and retrieve MUNmail email on your device.
