Maintaining Student Relationships Program (MSRP)
Hello,
My name is Penny-Lynn White. I am a Student Retention Advisor with the Academic Advising Centre here at Memorial. I am also the coordinator of the Maintaining Student Relationships Program or MSRP for short. The focus of the MSRP is to help undeclared students who are beyond their first year of study with developing an academic path. So, if you are a Memorial student who is not declared in a program of study; have applied to a program, but have been declined admission; or you know what program you want to study, but are not sure if you are on the right track for admission, then the MSRP can help you.
The MSRP takes a proactive approach in communicating with students. Through a series of emails, I encourage students to register for the appropriate courses, to declare a program of study and to seek academic advice. Feedback from students who have availed of the MSRP is that it it nice to know that the person reaching out to them is the same person providing the academic advice.
My communication through the MSRP is proactive in nature. I prepare and send emails to identified groups of undeclared students encouraging registration, providing instructions on how to declare a program of study, as well as inviting students to meet with me to discuss academic paths. Additionally, I ensure that the MSRP is involved in many activities and on-campus collaborations geared at supporting students beyond their first year, for example, offering an information session for undeclared students in collaboration with the Centre for Career Development and Experiential Learning.
I hope this has provided you with a little more background on the MSRP and the work I do. I encourage you to take advantage of the assistance I can provide to you. I thoroughly enjoyed pursuing both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Memorial so much that I sought work here after graduation in various different roles and units. This background has prepared me to provide you with sound academic advice which will help put you on the right academic path.
If you wish to discuss any academic questions you may have or want to set up an appointment to meet with me, please feel free to email me at msrp@mun.ca.
