Chaplaincy
University Centre, UC 5001B
Chaplaincy at Memorial University of Newfoundland is a ministry to the whole university community – students, staff, and faculty – and all faiths. The intent of Chaplaincy is to develop an environment for spiritual growth and exploration at Memorial. We seek to accomplish this by providing a forum for interaction, a non-threatening environment, opportunity for fellowship, as well as individual pastoral counselling and support. Chaplaincy also seeks to bring a faith dimension to contemporary issues such as peace, justice, technology, and science.
We realize that Memorial is changing into a truly international community made up of many faiths, traditions, and ideologies. Chaplaincy seeks to build bridges with all faith groups and spiritual seekers at Memorial.
At present, there are chaplains from five Christian denominations on campus: Anglican, Pentecostal, Salvation Army, Roman Catholic, and United. The chaplains work together as a ministry team for the benefit of students, staff and faculty. In an institution designed for growing, changing, deciding, and testing, chaplaincy attempts to provide resources, guidance, and support for those involved in this growth and change process.
