Career Development and Experiential Learning (CDEL) offers innovative career programs and services for students and alumni. CDEL's primary goal is to prepare students for their careers through the facilitation of experiential learning opportunities, connection to employers and provision of resources for career exploration and/or employment transition.

Services include:

  • Numerous one-hour workshops on such topics as resume writing, networking and interview skills
  • Access to MyMunLife, a my.mun.ca portal, which allows students to keep track of ongoing events, view and apply for jobs and book appointments with a career specialist
  • Administration of on-campus employment opportunities such as MUCEP, SWASP, ISWEP and GradSWEP
  • Career exploration through Career Cruising and various labour market information websites
  • Recruiter engagement opportunities through employer information sessions, the Career & Graduate School Fair and Career Fair: Online Edition
  • Referrals to volunteer opportunities on and off campus via the Student Volunteer Bureau; and
  • Access to information and advice for students interested in going abroad to study, travel, work and volunteer

Programs include:

  • Science M@tters - a nationally award -winning program targeted at undergraduate science students beyond first year who are contemplating the value of a science degree, seeking career direction and looking for guidance from experienced science alumni
  • ArtsWorks - a nationally award-winning program that provides arts students or students considering an arts degree, the opportunity to bridge classroom learning with practical application of skills to ease transition from university to postgraduate opportunities
  • Professional Skills Development Program - helps to prepare international students for professional employment in Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Canada. Over a period of weeks, a number of themes are covered including communication, culture, volunteering and interactive professional skill development
  • Dining Etiquette - a three hour event that aims to inform participants of the essential social skills and manners required in a formal dining setting. Participants are asked to dress as though they were invited to an interview as it involves a three-course meal with a mix of employers, alumni, students and representatives from CDEL
  • Volunteer Incentive Program - administered through the Student Volunteer Bureau, it is a program that recognizes students for their valuable contributions
  • Make Mid-term Matter - an award-winning program offered during the fall and winter semesters that gives students the opportunity to spend a day during their mid-term break volunteering for various organizations throughout the city; and
  • Community Service-Learning Day - an event that encourages students, faculty and staff to serve their community through environmental projects
