Build Work Experience
There are lots of opportunities for you to gain excellent work experience alongside your studies at Memorial University.
Working on campus is a great way to get more connected to campus, build employability skills and develop professional connections that can serve as references in the future.
We also offer a number of programs that support Memorial students working off-campus. These experiences provide you with opportunities to apply the knowledge you are learning in your courses to practical experiences in the workplace.
Are you preparing for an interview and eager to improve your interview skills? Mock interviews are held every week by experienced human resource professionals.
Standing out in a crowd
Jennifer Mallard, a third-year Business Commerce student decided to try something different when applying for her first work term. Jenny says “I was a little discouraged at first after I didn’t get chosen in the first round of the job competition, but when a position at the Genesis Centre came up in the second round it seemed like a perfect opportunity for me, I was extremely excited.”
After applying for the position and getting an interview, she was informed that she would be required to give a 60-second pitch on why the centre should hire her. Jenny channelled her passion for singing and songwriting, and decided to write a little song about why they should hire her, and performed it in the interview! A couple hours after the interview, Jenny was contacted and offered the job! Check out Jenny’s 60-second pitch above.
