Applying for Research Grants

All applications by faculty members for external grant funding must be reviewed by Research Grant and Contract Services or CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services to ensure institutional support and signature before they are submitted to the funding agency.

Before submitting a proposal, researchers shall:

  • Obtain review/signatures from relevant department head and/or dean or other unit signatory as appropriate  
  • Obtain signatures from external co-applicants and their institution(s) 
  • Submit completed proposal to RGCS or CCCS for institutional review. Completed proposals must be received by noon at least three working days before the institutional deadline.

Note: Based on applications volumes anticipated for some competitions, on a case-by-case basis internal university deadlines may be adjusted to a period greater than three working days. These adjusted internal deadlines will be communicated to researchers in advance.

Obtaining the necessary signatures can be a complex and time consuming process. It is the responsibility of individual researchers to allow adequate time for this process and to understand the requirements of the individual academic unit, the university and the funding agency.
