MUN/NSO Trumpet Assistantship
Memorial University School of Music and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra are proud to announce the new MUN/NSO Trumpet Assistantship Program. Students auditioning for a master of music in trumpet can elect to simultaneously audition to perform 2nd chair with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. Our generous graduate student funding significantly exceeds tuition costs and is supplemented by professional pay available from the NSO. The assistantship also includes guaranteed faculty chamber music experience performing with Dr. Alan Klaus on and off campus. This rare combination of professional experience and mentorship is designed for ambitious students aiming for a performance career and/or doctoral studies.
In addition to the master of music audition requirements for brass, candidates will be expected to prepare a short list of orchestral excerpts set by the musical director of the NSO.
1) A balanced recital program of at least 45 minutes, including a wide range of styles and composers.
*Distance auditions must include a video recording of all orchestral excerpts on one continuous take. Students preparing an NYOC audition can alternatively submit that full video plus a separate video containing the Tchaikovsky and Carmen excerpts in one continuous take.
How to Apply:
- Indicate on your application that you will be auditioning for the MUN/NSO Trumpet Assistantship in addition to your master of music audition.
