Orchestra and Wind Ensemble Audition Materials

Dear Students,

Welcome, and welcome back, to the MUN School of Music for another year of adventure and discovery! Every fall, all music students (new and returning) must audition for ensemble placement. In addition, we welcome auditions by community members and students from other faculties who may wish to perform with one of our ensembles.

Below you will find PDFs of the excerpts for Wind Ensemble. It is in your best interest to seek out recordings of the music to get a sense of tempo and character.

With the fall semester being online, we will focus on the development of individual parts, working on wind ensemble music in chamber music settings (e.g. breakout rooms), and recording these compositions using online multi-track digital audio work stations. We will also focus on style, rhythm and listening. All of these activities will encourage us to grow as a musical community.

Auditions will be done by video submission.

Audition videos will have to be submitted by Friday, September 4th 11:59pm Newfoundland Time. Make sure to set your recording device to the best possible audio quality and use external mics or audio recorders if available. Please record your excerpt without a metronome.

To submit your audition video, please use Chrome or Firefox (not Safari) and log in to Brightspace and select "Ensemble Auditions". You will find a tab for "Wind Ensemble" with a video upload tool. If you do not have access to Brightspace or cannot find the "Ensemble Auditions" shell, please contact me at wmb535@mun.ca.

If you have any questions about the wind ensemble auditions feel free to contact me.
