Chelsea was born and raised in Winnipeg before she moved to Halifax to complete her B.Sc. in Marine Biology and Environment Sustainability and Society. She has a broad range of volunteer experience in humanitarian efforts, environmental management, and laboratory settings with organizations and institutions such as the Ecology Action Center, Dalhousie University, and International Student Volunteers. Chelsea has also worked in educational settings as a Teaching Assistant with the College of Sustainability, as well as with the Faculty of Biology at Dalhousie University. Chelsea is a Distinctive Graduate of the Coastal and Marine Resource Management program at the University Center of the Westfjords, Iceland where she was a part of academic and community groups such as the Graduate Student Council and volunteered as a coach for both youth and adult local volleyball teams.

Chelsea is the first PhD student accepted into the Fisheries Science program at the Marine Institute and will be based out of the Labrador Institute for summer field seasons. She will be involved with Integrating genomics, phenotypes and local ecological knowledge towards improving capelin stock management in Canadian Atlantic and Arctic waters under the supervision of Drs. Marie Clement and Grant Murray. Specifically, Chelsea will be focusing on the local ecological knowledge component of the research, working closely with fishing and indigenous communities along the North and South Shores of Labrador and the Lower North Shore of Quebec.
