The Baccalieu Trail Thriving Regions Partnership Process: Researchers Meet with Citizens to Discuss Project Results

In September 2019, the Harris Centre completed the first workshop in Carbonear for the Thriving Regions Partnership Process.

Attendees came up with their three top priorities for the region, which included (1) Tourism & Culture; (2) Infrastructure & Accessibility; and (3) Innovation & Business Development.

After a Call for Expressions of Interest went out, projects were selected by the evaluation committee to be funded for further research. These included "Hidden Gems of the Baccalieu Trail," by Natalie Dignam, CHMR-MUN, and "Traditional Knowledge Inventory of the Baccalieu Trail: Mobilizing Intangible Cultural Heritage," by Dale Jarvis, Department of Folklore and Heritage NL.

With the on-set of the COVID-19 pandemic, and associated restriction of MUN research activities, the researchers had to adjust their processes accordingly; however, all  projects were able to move ahead using virtual engagement practices and on March 19th, 2021, the Harris Centre hosted a virtual session in which these two researchers, Natalie Dignam and Dale Jarvis, discussed the results of their work.
