Climate Change Consultation, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

10:30am to 12pm, August 18, 2016
McCann Centre, Memorial University Campus, St. John's.

Memorial University’s Harris Centre is pleased to invite you to a consultation session by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Office of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency with the objective of informing the development of a new provincial strategy on climate change.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the planet and is expected to bring weather that is warmer and stormier to our province, with more intense periods of precipitation. This will present risks such as damage to infrastructure and property, changes to ecosystems, and risks to public health and safety, as well as opportunities for growth and development in the green economy as the global demand for low-carbon solutions increases.

This session is an opportunity for you to share your views, ideas and perspectives on ways that Newfoundland and Labrador can minimize the risks and maximize the opportunities presented by climate change. Discussion topics will focus on growing the green economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; adapting to climate change; and government leadership on climate change action. Your input will be instrumental as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador shapes a climate change strategy for the Province, set for release in 2017.

The session will take place from 10:30am to 12pm on August 18, 2016, at the McCann Centre on the St. John’s Memorial University Campus. The McCann Centre is located at the back of the Education Library on the 2nd floor. Should you be interested in attending the session, please register below and visitwww.gov.nl.ca/TalkClimateChange for more information on the consultations and other ways you can join the conversation and be heard.
