A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in 2023 for #GivingTuesday! The Memorial community once again united in a collective mission to empower our students.
Your support makes a significant impact. Funds raised will provide emergency funding, scholarships, bursaries and so much more, helping students reach their full potential during their time at Memorial.
Together, we truly are a community that embodies compassion, generosity, and the spirit of giving.
Thanks to a special group of donors, our GivingTuesday Champions, donations made between Nov. 26 and 28, 2023 were matched up to $55,000 with a donation to the Thriving Student Fund. They deserve a special shout-out!
They are Memorial University alumni Dr. Ann Colbourne (B.Sc.’80, B.Med.Sc.’85, MD’87); Brian Lemessurier (B.Eng.’76); Bob McKay (BA’80, B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)’82); Eileen Picco (B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)’82); John Parsons (B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)’99) and three other Giving Tuesday champions who prefer to remain anonymous.
What is GivingTuesday?
GivingTuesday is a global movement that inspires generosity and kindness. Following on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it kicks off the giving season and encourages people to do good in their communities.
Memorial has been participating in GivingTuesday since 2015. Since then, alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends have raised over $520,000, showing that, together, we make a real difference for our students!
Thriving Student Fund
The Thriving Student Fund was created as a priority fund for GivingTuesday to provide funding as needed, where needed for students. Whether they need short-term emergency support, or by empowering their success through scholarships and bursaries, this fund helps students to achieve academic and personal success during their time at Memorial University.
All donations to this fund support undergraduate and graduate students across all campuses, increasing access to education and providing financial support so that students can focus on their studies.
This past GivingTuesday, the Memorial community came together for students and the impact of donations will continue to make a positive difference all year long! We look forward to creating more opportunities for student success next year. Mark your calendar for GivingTuesday 2024 on Dec. 3, 2024!
If you'd like to make a donation in the meantime, you can donate here. 100% of your gift goes to your chosen award or intended area of support.
