Research Interests
  • Design and development of performance-based asphalt mixtures and enhanced construction specifications using local, recycled, waste and regenerative materials

  • Mechanical, rheological and chemical characterizations of pavement materials using classical and advanced laboratory tests, both in micro and macro scales, and development of performance prediction models (Asphalt, aggregate, polymer, additive and asphalt mixture)

  • Mechanistic-based and finite element analyses for enhanced pavement design solutions under changing climates, new generation tire loadings and composite pavement environments

  • Development of smart and sustainable pavements using innovative nano and polymeric materials which have multi-functional features including self-healing, phase-changing, energy-harvesting, and sensing-properties to minimize life cycle maintenance costs and to accommodate new generation connected and autonomous vehicles

  • Development of science-based decision making tools for optimizing pavement and municipal infrastructure investments (Pavement asset management, ranking of aging infrastructure, life cycle analysis, application development)

  • Development of smart and sustainable spring and winter road maintenance strategies, solutions, and pavement preservation techniques

Memorial's Pavement Research Group always looks for students (PhD/Master's) who have high motivation for research, strong academic record(s) and background in the pavement engineering to join our growing team. The selected students will be conducting research in one of the following areas:

  • Pavement Engineering (Mechanistic Design and Finite Element Analysis)
  • Pavement Materials (Asphalt and Mixture Characterization Using Classical and Advanced Testing)
  • Pavement Asset Management
