Faculty of Education graduates at the Grenfell Campus were officially welcomed into the teaching profession during the Teacher Induction Ceremony on October 4.

Co-hosted by the Faculty of Education and the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA), the ceremony took place at Grenfell’s Arts and Science Extension Atrium.

Dr. Kirk Anderson, dean of Education, and Dean Ingram, president of the NLTA, welcomed graduates into the teaching profession.

Natasha Hillier spoke on behalf of the new teachers. A native of Corner Brook, Ms. Hillier completed an International Bachelor of Business Administration and went on to work with the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour for more than two years. She returned to Grenfell to complete a Bachelor of Education.

Scott Reid, MHA for St. George’s-Humber, brought greetings to the graduates on behalf of the province’s Department of Education.

As part of the induction ceremony, the new primary and elementary teachers were presented with pins and recited the Teacher’s Affirmation of Professional Responsibility.

On Oct. 5, education students at the Grenfell Campus also attended Convocation in the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Book. In all, 20 students were eligible to graduate with their Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) or Masters of Education degrees.
