National funding agencies

 

The Tri-Council (CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC) agencies offer a number of programs for graduate students who may be interested in applying for research funding or prizes.

 Canada Graduate Scholarships Masters 2014 Competition (CGS M)

Beginning, September 2013, the Tri-Council has implemented a new model of delivery for a harmonized Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) Master’s Award as the first step in on-going efforts to unify and simplify processes related to programs common to CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC. All recipients of Tri-Council scholarships shall be eligible for a $5000 Deans Excellence award; this is applicable to all new recipients awarded in 2014 and beyond.

Ocean Industries Student Research Award

The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) has launched its annual Ocean Industries Student Research Awards (OISRA).  These awards are open to undergraduate students as well as masters and doctoral candidates who are pursuing oceans-related research in applied science, engineering and technology programs. For graduate students, collaboration with businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador’s ocean industries is required.  The awards provide up to $30,000 per year for three years, and $3,000 per year for supervisors.
