Applications and nominations for this position are invited from full-time members of the Faculty of Science at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The ideal candidate will be an active researcher with tri-council funding and a first-class record of accomplishment who is eager to take on a leadership role in guiding science research in the faculty. Applicants should have a broad vision of the essential role of science research in the University, its relationship to teaching, and have the ability to communicate that vision in a positive and effective manner to others within and outside the University.
The appointee will be a member of a team, located in the Office of the Dean, which is responsible for the overall academic, personnel and financial management of the Faculty of Science. The appointee will assist the Dean of Science by: being a resource for faculty on a wide variety of research matters; advising new and established faculty in submitting grant applications; reviewing all grants and contracts; acting as a liaison with research service units inside and outside of the University; directing the implementation of the Faculty of Science strategic plan and monitoring its progress; administering the 5 graduate interdisciplinary programs; overseeing the Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee; representing the Faculty and Dean on a variety of research-related university committees; acting in place of the Dean when so delegated.
The appointment will commence September 1st, 2012. It will be for a renewable three-year term and will permit the appointee to continue research and teaching by mutual agreement.
