"LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE."

When I was young the good Lord wrought upon my heart, and I felt that there was something in religion which I did not possess. I attended a German Reformed prayer meeting, and prayed in secret. The enemy of souls suggested to me that the praying people were crazy; and some of my friends ridiculed me for going among such people. I had no person to instruct me properly, and so my feelings wore away, and I got into bad company, and became worse. In 1848 the United Brethren in Christ held a meeting. I attended it, and felt the necessity of getting religion. I presented myself at the mourner's bench for prayers several evenings without finding peace, at times feeling as hard in heart as a stone. One evening, after sermon, a brother came to me, and pointed me to the Lamb of God. I went to the altar again and labored for a while, and before the meeting was brought to a close, my soul was converted. I could then praise God and shout for joy. I thank God that the brother came and spoke to me. Had it not been for that, I should perhaps never have heeded another offer of mercy. I now bless God for His great mercy.
