SUBJECT: PSA: Concert at Memorial to feature indigenous popular music from Newfoundlandand Labrador, Nunavut, Alaska and the Torres Strait Islands
DATE: June 10, 2005
On Sunday, June 26, a unique concert will take the stage at the D. F. Cook Recital Hall on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. Starting at 8 p.m., indigenous musicians from Canada and Australia will perform a variety of contemporary and popular music styles, in a show titled Global Rhythms — Indigenous Popular Music from Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, Alaska and the Torres Strait Islands. Featured artists include Harry Martin, the Innu rock band Meshikamau, Paul Pike, George “Toofie” Christian and rising Canadian star Lucy Idlout.
Tickets are $20 ($10 for students and seniors) and are available at the door. For further information about the concert call 737-3701or 737-2051.
