Important Change to Dental Coverage
Memorial’s dental plan provider, Medavie Blue Cross, has advised of an important change to coverage for Newfoundland and Labrador residents with children under the age of 13. Effective November 15, 2007, dental coverage for fillings and extractions for children under the age of 13 will be removed from the dental plan.
The cost of these services will instead be paid under the Newfoundland government’s Child Dental Health Program. This change should have no impact on your child’s coverage as the government program pays 100% of the cost of these services for children.
Blue Cross has communicated this change to all dental offices in the province and advises that dentists have agreed to accept the government payment. It is not expected that parents will incur any out of pocket expenses as a result of this change. Employees are, however, encouraged to remind their dental office to submit claims for fillings and extractions for children under the age of 13 to the provincial program.
Questions about this change or the group benefits program generally may be directed to the Benefits and Pensions Office at 864-7406 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
