Thesis Title

Research Description

My project contributes to working group 4 of Too Big To Ignore Global Partnership for Small Scale Fisheries Research, which aims to enhance stewardship within small-scale fisheries while minimizing environmental impacts in the Latin America and Caribbean region. I am interested in evaluating the social implications on Small-scale fisheries caused by the implementation of Marine Protected Areas in Brazil.

Through an interactive governance perspective, I intend to look at the values, images and principles that resource users hold towards protected areas. In addition, I will use participatory mapping as a tool to identify potential conflict areas between protecting the livelihoods of small-scale fisheries communities and biodiversity conservation.
