Up to 22 positions of 6-16 week duration are available in summer 2012 at the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador. These positions are field and/or office-based in locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Successful candidates will assist project geologists involved in (and have opportunities to become familiar with) bedrock and surficial geological mapping, geochemical sampling, as well as mineral deposit studies. Fieldwork commonly involves significant traversing in rugged terrain, and may also involve operation of boats and ATVs, as well as travel by helicopter and plane.
Candidates must have successfully completed at least first-year Earth Science or Geography courses, and must be willing and able to perform physically demanding work in isolated locations for field positions. Office-based positions will be located in St. John’s and include a variety of tasks including GIS work, data management, filing and copying, laboratory work and others. Students must be returning to an undergraduate or graduate program in the fall of 2012 in order to be considered for summer employment.
