Welcome to the Department of French and Spanish
Dept Moderator

In the 21st century, the ability to communicate at the international level is an essential skill that is greatly valued in a lot of professions. By choosing to study languages you will broaden your horizons, enrich your life and improve your future employment opportunities.

Our international faculty will help you learn French, Spanish and Italian and foster a global understanding and greater intercultural and interpersonal skills through an exposure to cultures and literatures taught in the department.

Our faculty members carry out research and teach in a wide range of disciplines: language acquisition, literary theories, as well as cultures and literatures including Youth Literature.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a minor and a major in French and a minor and a major in Spanish, as well as a Honors program for students desiring a broader foundation for future graduate studies.

As we strongly believe in the power of experiential learning, we encourage you to take advantage of our programs in France, Spain and Italy to improve your language skills and experience the cultures first hand.

At the graduate level, you may choose between two programs: French studies (language, francophone literatures and cultures) or French and Education (M.A & M.Ed.).

Our website will help you find information about our programs, activities in the department, details of programs that take you abroad as well as job opportunities.

Over the next few months, many of our talented students and alumni with also share their stories academic and career success. Their individual pathways and interests vary but all share a belief in the transformative value of learning to communicate in another language, both for personal and professional lives.

We are committed to the success of our students and look forward to sharing our expertise with you! I look forward to meeting with you and sharing in your story.

Many thanks,

Dr. Thareau
