Food Advocacy Research at Memorial (FARM)
Food Advocacy Research at Memorial (FARM) was convened in March 2013. We began with a meeting of faculty members interested in food studies in its various dimensions who wanted to create an opportunity to meet and exchange research and teaching ideas about food-ways, food security, food systems, etc.
We have since expanded the group to include the Memorial Campus Food Systems project which promotes Applied Student Research. ASR encourages connections between faculty and students – within and between faculties – to work on papers, honours theses, MAs and PhDs to contribute to the question of how to make food systems more sustainable. ASR also has the potential to tackle questions about how to improve campus food services and regional food systems. The Food Studies Group will also actively circulate faculty research interests for students. If you have any questions, please contact the office of the Dean of Arts.
Currently FARM is developing a bibliography on issues relevant to Newfoundland and Labrador's food system(s). This is part of our project to identify research gaps in knowledge about food issues in the province, historical and contemporary. If you know of any data/reports/projects that may be relevant for our project, please contact FARM's research assistant Emily Doyle at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
We are also in the midst of planning a research symposium to be held Saturday May 9 on the St. John's campus. We are looking for submissions from MUN faculty members and graduate students regarding their research on food issues in Newfoundland and Labrador. Submissions should be sent to email@example.com by April 1. Please see www.mun.ca/farm/events.php for more info.
