Professor Graham Bodwell of the Department of Chemistry has been awarded one of two University Research Professorships for 2013, along with Dr. Christopher Parrish,from the Department of Ocean Sciences.
University Research Professor (URP) is a designation above the rank of professor. The title is the most prestigious award the university gives for research, and goes to a faculty member who has demonstrated a consistently high level of scholarship and whose research is of a truly international stature. The designation carries with it a $4,000 research grant (each year for five years) and a reduced teaching schedule.
Dr. Bodwell is a leading international authority in cyclophanes, novel aromatic compounds, pyrene chemistry, inverse electron demand Diels-Alder chemistry, synthetic methodology and the synthesis of (hetero)aromatic natural products and their analogues.
The president’s award ceremony where Dr. Bodwell will recieve this award is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12, in Innovation Hall, Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, St. John’s campus
