November 2021: Join me for On the Horizon

Memorial University is a vital piece of the economic, social and cultural fabric of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Our success is the province’s success — that was illustrated in a recent KPMG report about the economic impact of Memorial. It clearly lays out the university’s significant contributions to the local, provincial and national economy.

We add $627 million to Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy and nearly 10,000 jobs, not to mention all the downstream effects the university brings.

A class that sparks an idea for a startup; a new discovery that changes our understanding of a problem — Memorial is a catalyst for change.

Every year, thousands of students graduate from Memorial and push the boundaries of new knowledge in creative and entrepreneurial ways.

Our data tells us that about 66,000 alumni live in the province, and KPMG calculated that they’ve earned $1.37 billion in additional income annually due to their degree from Memorial, with a GDP impact of $2.06 billion.

Memorial is a university for Newfoundland and Labrador, for the world and for the future.

Next week, I will speak to the St. John’s Board of Trade about the economic impact of Memorial and the future of our university.

I hope that you’ll join me on Thursday, Dec. 9, at Signal Hill Campus for a lunchtime event. I want to tell you all about how we are changing today to meet the needs of tomorrow.

Visit the Board of Trade website for more information on how to attend.
