Welcome to the The Letter, a Memorial University newsletter designed specifically for prospective International students interested in Memorial University of Newfoundland. Each issue, we will keep you updated on the latest news around campus, profile current students, and much more.
Students joining campus for the first time in the winter semester get the same treatment as those that arrive in September, by participating in a one day campus orientation. Events include a panel of University representatives (for you to ask them your burning questions), a University services fair and a campus tour.

Grenfell Campus was the only Newfoundland and Labrador stop for the Earth Summit 2012 pan-Canadian tour! Environmentally minded students, staff, faculty and community members got together with representatives from across the country to help build environmental policy documents to submit to the Canadian government.
The Office of Student Recruitment is recruiting in various countries around the world. Check out our International students webpage to see if we'll be in your country.
Don’t forget we’ll be hosting webinars during the winter months. Check out the webinar schedule for the most up to date information.
Former General Rick Hillier, Dr. Nigel Rusted, and Thomas Dawe, are among the newest recipients of the Order of Canada. The Order of Canada is the second highest honor of merit in the country, and is awarded by the Governor General on behalf of the Queen of Canada.
Construction of the new 200-bed residence is well underway! The new facility is expected to open in 2013. Each suite will comprise two private bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a small entry way. The residence will also feature communal food preparation areas and laundry facilities.
Grenfell currently has two residence wings (three floors each) attached to the Arts and Science Building and eight chalet-style apartment buildings on two sites, comprising total accommodations for about 400 students.

The residences of Paton College are being renovated to make them more energy efficient. The switch from a hot water to an electrical heating system and the addition of brand new ventilation systems will have the largest impact on energy efficiency. But other changes, including compact fluorescent light bulbs in every socket, will further decrease energy use and new low-flow plumbing fixtures will also serve to reduce water usage.
Every room will now have wired and wireless Internet access, as well as cable television access. And for the first time at Memorial, single rooms which previously held a twin bed are being upgraded to double beds.
