American-Patterned Curriculum
General Admission Requirements
Credential
High School Graduation Diploma awarded by a school recognized by its State Department of Education.
For International American Schools (not located in the United States of America), the school must be accredited by one of the six Regional accrediting bodies in the United States of America.
Required Subject Areas
- English
- Mathematics*
- Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language
- Elective
*Students who are missing an eligible mathematics or laboratory science course, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1 to 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact international_registrar@mun.ca.
Applicants who have completed certain International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) courses may be eligible for transfer credit.
General Admission Criteria
Admission average
- Overall B average in the required subject areas at the grade 12 level. This will normally be considered the equivalent of at least three grades of B with no more than one D and a “pass” in all subject areas.
Proof of English Proficiency
- Proof of English language proficiency beyond diploma completion is normally not required. Please refer to the University Calendar for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions. For further details, refer to the supplementary application forms and documents page.
Additional Notes
Memorial generally does not require that applicants complete the College Board’s SAT examinations; however, students are welcome to submit their scores if they have already written the SAT and wish to share their result.
The College Board SAT Subject Test in Mathematics - Level 1 (SATM1) may be accepted in place of Memorial’s Math Placement Test (MPT) if a minimum score is attained. Visit the Department of Mathematics & Statistics for information on placement requirements.
