Conference: Annual Meeting of the Society of Molecular Biology and Evolution (SMBE)

The SMBE meeting is an annual event where some of the foremost researchers of molecular biology meet to discuss their research and findings. This year’s conference consisted of approximately 1000 participants who gave oral presentation or posters.

Ana Duggan was one of ten students selected to partake in the Undergraduate Diversity Mentoring Programme. She was paired with a faculty mentor and a graduate student mentor who not only eased the process of adapting to a large international meeting, but also shared their research experience with Ana.

Plenary lectures were on such topics as the evolution of HIV and AIDS, and genomic imprinting by well known researchers which was informative and fascinating.

At this conference Ana met with researchers from many different countries and continents and now have contact for her future research and graduate work.
