1. When will I know if I am a Group Leader or an Event Leader?
We will try to provide you with your role in the middle of August. At the very latest, you will find out your role for Orientation at Volunteer Training, taking place on August 31st.
2. Will I be fed on all three days?
Yes! Lunch and snacks will be provided on both days of Orientation and on Volunteer Training. Please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions.
3. Will I get a t-shirt?
Yes! T-shirts are free for all volunteers. You will receive one at volunteer training. We will try our very best to make sure that you receive your preferred t-shirt style, however this may not always be possible. We appreciate your patience and adaptability.
4. What if I have to leave? Can I come back?
Yes! For each day of Orientation, you will be required to sign in and out with an OAC. If you need to leave, you must sign out and sign in again when you return. This way we can keep track of your hours!
5. Do I have to stay the whole time?
We would really appreciate it! There is a lot to be done throughout the entire day, and the more hands we have, the better and smoother the event runs. But if you have to leave, just be sure to sign out.
6. I signed up to be a Group Leader, but I now want to be an Event Leader. Can I change that? (and vice versa)
Volunteer roles have yet to be chosen. If you would like to change the role that you have chosen, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will make a note of it!
7. How many hours will I get towards my VIP hours?
If you volunteer for both days of Orientation and stay all day, you should earn about 16 hours of volunteer time. By signing in and out we can keep track of all your hours and give you an accurate number of your hours at the end of the event.
8. What should I wear?
You'll be moving around and on your feet for the majority of the day, so make sure to wear something comfortable! Especially comfortable shoes! As well, don't forget to wear your MUN volunteer t-shirt!
9. What should I bring?
You don't need to bring anything except yourself, a good attitude, and any papers that you received during volunteer training. Although food will be provided, feel free to bring snacks with you! Bringing a re-useable water bottle is also a great idea to stay hydrated!
10. Will there be a safe place to store my belongings (wallet, purse, jacket)?
There will be a room designated for all volunteers to store their belongings during both days of Orientation and someone will be in this room at all times. But if you don't need it, it's best to leave it at home.
11. How can I add Orientation to my co-curricular record (CCR)?
You can add Orientation to your CCR after Orientation takes place. The event will need to be validated by the Student Leadership Programs Coordinator, Holly White. It’s great to get started on building your CCR! You can add to your CCR by checking www.my.mun.ca!
12. I loved my Orientation experience, how can I continue my involvement in similar experiences?
Leadership Programs offers many other programs throughout the year that you can get involved with! Such programs include LEAP!, Horizons, and MSLC. For more information on getting involved with these organizations, check out the Leadership Programs web page. As well, sign up for the Answers list-serv for updates on volunteer recruitment.
13. So, I'm stoked to be a volunteer, but I'd like some more information on the event and what to expect?
