Masters of Social Work (MSW)

When you have graduated from the BSW program you may wish to consider furthering your social work education by pursuing a masters degree in social work. Several universities in Canada and the United States, including Memorial, offer an MSW program and it is suggested that you look around and discover which school will best serve your needs. A listing of Canadian MSW programs approved by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work can be found here.

To be eligible for the MSW program, a bachelor of social work degree is required along with a minimum of two years professional social work practice.

The next application deadline date for the MSW Program at Memorial University is January 15, 2012 with classes beginning in September 2012. (revised program begins). The program can be completed on a full-time basis during a one year (three semester) period, or on a part-time basis over either a two year (six semester) or a three year (nine semester) period.

Doctoral Program (PhD)

The doctor of philosophy program in social work began at Memorial University in 1995. Courses begin during the spring semester and are completed over five semesters.

The two spring semester residencies must be attended on a full-time basis, while fall and winter semester courses can be taken on or away from campus.
