Human Investigations Committee (HIC) Researchers are required to submit proposals for review by one of two Research Ethics Boards (REBs): the Human Investigations Committee (HIC) for medical and biomedical research and the Interdisciplinary Committee for Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR) for all other research.

National Council on Ethics in Human Research NCEHR operates under the umbrella of the Coordinating Committee made up of: the Deputy Minister of Health Canada, the Presidents of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada as well as the President of NCEHR.
