Admissions

Applicants are required to submit:
  1. an application form for the SGS. Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies, as outlined in the University Calendar;
  2. evidence of an MSW degree or equivalent professional social work degree, as determined by the Graduate Studies Committee, School of Social Work;
  3. evidence of a minimum of three years of professional practice;
  4. description of her/his intended study and research plan; and
  5. an up-to-date curriculum vitae and samples of written work.

Early Acceptance:
Applicants may be considered for early acceptance into the PhD program if they meet all regular criteria and one or all of the following criteria:
  1. outstanding academic and scholarship performance;
  2. outstanding leadership as a representative of a disadvantaged population;
  3. special needs requiring lengthier preparation such as:
    1. international funding or travel requirements;
    2. cultural and language adaptations; or
    3. other abled.
Faculty as Graduate Students:
A tenured or tenure-track faculty member may be admitted to a post-baccalaureate degree program of studies only in a department/division or academic unit other than the department/division or academic unit in which she/he holds a position or normally teaches.
