Critical Thinking for Social Work Practice

This course is intended to complement Social Work 7010 in the development of philosophical and historical knowledge. It focuses on theoretical approaches that frame social work practice, research and education.

Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding and critical analysis of various theoretical approaches, with a view to developing their own theoretical framework(s). Theoretical approaches that will be studied may include: anti-oppressive practice (AOP), intersectionality, post-structuralism, Indigenous studies and anti-colonialism, critical psychiatry/Mad studies, queer theories, critical race theory, childhood studies, and diaspora studies, amongst others.
