The Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship

Memorial University of Newfoundland and its Alumni Association have established these scholarships to honor former University President, Dr. Leslie Harris, and to recognize excellence of our students. Several scholarships, valued at a minimum of $16,000.00 ($4,000.00 annually for up to 4 years) will be awarded annually and may be renewed if first class and scholarship standing are maintained. These scholarships are tenable in all undergraduate programs at the University and will be awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Program of Study: B.Sc Biochemistry

What this scholarship means to her: I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Memorial University Scholarship Committee for awarding me the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship. Not only has being awarded this scholarship proved to me that hard work and dedication pay off; it will allow me to concentrate on my school work.

What this award means to her: Receiving the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship has made me look forward to going to MUN even more than before and I am sure that it will make my experience much easier and much more enjoyable.

What this award means to him: Receiving the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship has been a tremendous honour. I would like to extend my thanks to the MUN Alumni Association for choosing me as a worthy candidate. This scholarship has not only given me financial support but also determination to work toward my goal of attending MUN Medical School.

What this award means to her: At present, I am enrolled as a general studies student, with plans to pursue an Arts degree. In the future, I am considering the possibility of Law School. Receiving this award is what swayed me to enroll at Memorial University; up until that point, I had planned to attend Keyin Technical College to become a Funeral Director. The Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship has significantly altered my future career path.

What this award means to him: It is truly an honour to be offered such a prestigious award as The Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship. Receiving it has not only had an immense impact on my drive to achieve success while learning at MUN, but has helped provide a sense of satisfaction toward all of the work that has been put in up to this point with respect to education, athletics, leadership and community involvement. With many years of school still ahead in my future, this scholarship will certainly be an incredible financial aid and for this I am sincerely grateful to the Scholarship Committee at MUN for offering me this scholarship.

What this award means to her: It has been a tremendous honour for me to receive the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship. This scholarship is ‘the big pay off’ for studying hard and becoming involved. Not only will it assist me financially in achieving my educational goals but it will also be a motivation to do the absolute best I can.

What this award means to her: I feel honoured to have been selected as a recipient of the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship. This award not only recognizes the hard work that is required for academic excellence but as well the importance of extracurricular involvement and volunteer service. It feels great to be rewarded for my efforts and I know this scholarship will motivate me to continue with my volunteer work and to be an active participant in student life at MUN as well as striving for academic success. The financial benefit will no doubt help me attain my long term goal of attending medical school. A huge thank-you to MUN and its Alumni Association!

What this award means to her: Receiving the Dr. Leslie Harris Memorial University Alumni Association Scholarship has been a great honour for me, and will let me focus on my studies without worrying about loans and debt. It is a great reward for all the effort I have put into high school and will motivate me to do my best all through university. I plan to attend Sir Wilfred Grenfell College for my first year and I plan to apply to the Faculty of Engineering in my second year.
