How to access your data

Data are automatically saved on our data server. They are then backed up daily on two different locations.

Data are password protected, restricting their access to the owner only.

C-CART has a no USB key policy. We encourage our users to copy their data to their personal computer using the method described below. Note that our dataserver can be accessed only from MUN campus and from wired computers (we are not responsible for wireless connection issues).

Accessing Data from a PC, Windows XP

  1. From Windows Explorer, in the Tools menu, select Map Network Drive...
  2. in Folder, enter: \\dataserve3.creait.mun.ca\DATA
  3. Click on "connect using different user name"
  4. In user name, enter your C-CART username as CREAIT\username
  5. Enter your C-CART password
  6. Click OK

Accessing Data from a PC, Windows 7


1. Open Windows Explorer, select "Computer" in the sidebar, then "Map Network Drive" in the top menu.
2. In Folder, enter "\\dataserve3.creait.mun.ca\DATA" (no quotes)
3. Select "Reconnect at logon" and "Connect using different credentials", then click "Finish".
4. In the new Windows Security window, enter your user name as "CREAIT\username", where "username" is your CREAIT login name (omit quotes).
5. Do not select "Remember my credentials" unless you are the only person using your computer.
6. Enter your CREAIT password, then click OK.

Note: If you are working at a computer that is shared among several users, DO NOT FORGET to disconnect the network connection when you are done!

7. Open Windows Explorer, select "Computer" in the sidebar, then the network drive under "Network Location".
8. Right-click on the network drive and select "Disconnect".

Accessing Data from a MAC

  1. In Finder, in the Go menu, select Connect to server...
  2. In Server Address, enter: smb://dataserve3.creait.mun.ca/DATA
  3. Enter you C-CART username as CREAIT\username as well as your C-CART password when prompted.
  4. This should open the DATA folder in FInder.
  5. Right click on the DATA folder, select Make Alias. This will create a shortcut on your desktop to the DATA folder.

In any case, if you are using a shared computer, remember to disconnect the network connection when you are done!
