Annika Haywood
Annika Haywood is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Biology at Memorial. Her research involves the studying genes involved in Parkinson's disease. From New Zealand, Annika received a B.Sc double major in Genetics and Biochemistry as well as her M.Sc in Biochemistry from Palmerston North New Zealand.
“I decided to pursue my PhD because I didn't want to be a research assistant, I liked research but wanted to be in charge and direct it and also I wanted to teach at a university level.”
“I chose Memorial because the research my supervisor, Dr. Brian Staveley was doing was exactly what I wanted to do.” Also, Memorial has an excellent library and living in St. John’s is inexpensive, so that’s an added bonus.”
