Search for Vice-President (Research)
Memorial University has begun its search for a new vice-president (research). This individual will succeed Dr. Christopher Loomis whose term ends September, 2013.
The search process will be guided by the Policies and Procedures Governing the Appointment, Review, Promotion and Tenure of Academic Administrators, and the committee has been struck in accordance with a memorandum of understanding entered into between Memorial University and MUNFA. The search committee will be chaired by the president. The representatives chosen for the search committee include: Dr. Denyse Lynde, English; Dr. Gerry Mugford, medicine; Dr. Kristin Poduska, physics; Dr. Faisal Kahn, engineering and applied science; and Carey Bonnell, the Marine Institute.
The student representatives are Jason Robinson, representing graduate students, and Candace Simms representing undergraduates.
Appointed from the deans group are Dr. Ellen Waterman, dean, music and Dr. Mark Abrahams, dean, Faculty of Science.
Appointed from the administrators group is Dr. Marlies Rise, director, Office of Research Services.
Rounding out the search committee is Dr. Mary Bluechardt, vice-president (Grenfell Campus).
The committee had its inaugural meeting in June and received a report of the review committee for the vice-president (research) portfolio which will aid in informing the search.
In the coming months, the committee will draft a position profile and the university community will be invited to provide feedback to inform the profile at vprsearch@mun.ca.
To facilitate its work, the committee has contracted the services of Jim Lundy, a consultant with Janet Wright and Associates, one of the country's top higher education executive search firms.
Updates will be provided to the university community on a regular basis and activities of the search committee will be provided for the duration of the search.
