Biography

Lisa Bishop graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1995, completed a hospital pharmacy residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario in 1998, and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Colorado in 2007.

Between 1995-2006 Dr. Bishop was a clinical pharmacist at Eastern Health in St. John’s where she practiced clinically in critical care and drug utilization evaluation. During this time she also worked part time in community pharmacy and was involved in teaching and mentoring pharmacy students.

Dr. Bishop joined Memorial University School of Pharmacy in July 2006 as an Assistant Professor. She began her position as Entry-level Pharm D Program Director in 2014.

At the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Bishop has coordinated fourth year Pharmacy Skills (5650), and taught in other courses such as Toxicology and Therapeutics, and supervised students during the final Structured Practical Experience.

She is also cross-appointed to the Discipline of Family Medicine where she holds an active clinical practice at the Shea Heights Family Practice clinic and is actively involved in teaching the family medicine residents.

Dr. Bishop has a number of research interests including mental health and addictions in youth/young adults, the role of the pharmacist in primary health care, and using electronic health record information for education. She is actively involved in a community-based participatory research project involving youth health and wellness.

Dr. Bishop is also actively involved in the profession of pharmacy. She has been an active member of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists executive since 1996, was the co-chair of the Pharmacy Alumni Homecoming, is a peer leader for the adoption of electronic medical records in the province, and sits on a variety of pharmacy and family medicine committees.
