Master of Nursing
Memorial University also offers an exciting Master of Nursing program for students who wish to continue their nursing education. Graduate students engage in advanced study and nursing practice, and work with faculty on research projects covering many aspects of the profession from administration to client care.
MN students may select from three routes to obtain their degree:
(I) Thesis option,
(II) Non-thesis option and
(III) Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care) option.
Normally the programme will require two years to complete when taken on a full-time basis.
In the non-thesis MN option, a consolidated practicum is required in one of the following five areas: advanced clinical practice, administration, research/ research utilization, health policy, or education. The practicum experience will provide the opportunity for integration and synthesis of philosophical perspectives, theories, research and skills that have been acquired in previous course work.
The student will have the opportunity for application and further development of knowledge in the selected area of interest. This field experience which will normally consist of 300 hours will foster advanced practice competencies including: consultation, collaboration, research interpretation, utilization and conduct, professional leadership, change agent skills, and ethical decision making skills.
