The Montague Family (Canada - NL)

The Montague Family, from North West River, Labrador, carries a proud tradition of fiddling which spans several generations. They have been the players in the corner, raising the roof, when square-dancing was in its heyday and today they continue to be popular entertainers at festivals and special events. Their style of fiddling is somewhat like the French style found in Northern New Brunswick and the Gaspe region of Quebec.

Cousins Louie and Lester are well respected fiddling elders in “The Big Land.” They are accompanied by Lester's nephew Trenton Montague, and Louie's brother Mike. Rounding out the group is Lester's niece, renowned singer/songwriter Shirley Montague. Shirley lives in Norris Point Newfoundland, though she frequently visits her home town of North West River.
