Edward J. Lear
began studying and playing fiddle at the age of ten. Throughout the 1970's, 80's and early 90's he played with The Lear Family Band at festivals and concerts as well as for radio and television broadcasts. He took up the study of luthiery in the mid 1980's. He repairs fiddles and has also built an F-5 mandolin, a five-string fiddle, a banjo and a resonator guitar.

Edward was a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band; is a lifetime member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Council; and is presently active in building the Newfoundland Fiddlers’ Association.
